Kinect Controllers for PC systems

    Good news for PC owners!

PrimeSense, the company that invented the technology that underlies Microsoft’s Kinect, and Asus,a leading enterprise in the new digital era, announced today that PrimeSense Immersive Natural Interaction™ solutions will be embedded in WAVI Xtion, a new interface system without physical device will be presented at CES in Las Vegas.

PrimeSense and Asus have revealed for the first time Wavy Xtion and Xtion Pro. Both will be introduced at CES in Las Vegas to be held January 6 to 9. Wavy Xtion is a new Kinect-like interface for PC that does not require the use of physical device or hand-held controllers. The product is expected to be commercially available on second quarter of 2011 and roll out worldwide in phases.

“Our agreement with ASUS for developing WAVI Xtion demonstrates that Natural Interaction technology is already mainstream,” said Inon Beracha, CEO, PrimeSense.

“This user interface is a new paradigm that represents how all CE products will eventually be naturally controlled and operated.”

Wavy Xtion will connect to the PC via wireless broadband technology and will enjoy interaction with the system without physical controller developed by PrimeSense for Kinect. Users can manage media content, access to the internet and social networks to interact with body movements.

Asus and PrimeSense have also thought about the development platform “Xtion Pro,” which will provide developers with the tools to take advantage of the new system. Developers through Xtion Pro can create their own applications and software based on gestures and motion detection. Xtion Pro will be available for purchase beginning in February. Developers will also have the opportunity to market their creations through the Xtion Online Store.

“make available an open source framework — the OpenNI framework — which provides an application programming interface (API) for writing applications utilizing natural interaction. This API covers communication with both low level devices (e.g. vision and audio sensors), as well as high-level middleware solutions (e.g. for visual tracking using computer vision).”

And as reported in the news, PrimeSense is also committed to promoting the dissemination of systems without physical controller with the creation of the non-profit OpenNI. The goal of OpenNI is to “make available an open source framework — the OpenNI framework — which provides an application programming interface (API) for writing applications utilizing natural interaction. This API covers communication with both low level devices (e.g. vision and audio sensors), as well as high-level middleware solutions (e.g. for visual tracking using computer vision).”
