For a limited time only, you can get $100 discount off the PlayStation 3D Display Bundle which includes a 24-inch slim 3D LED Display, a pair of PlayStation 3 3D Glasses (Active Shutter), HDMI cable, and MotorStorm: Apocalypse game for the Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) console.
The PlayStation 3D Display is designed to deliver superior 3D experience for gaming and 3D movies playback for the Sony PlayStation 3 console without taking up huge space in your room. Of course, this display works perfectly for full HD 2D gaming and movies, too.
The 24-inch LED Display comes with 240 Hertz refresh rate, Full HD 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution, and built-in speakers with subwoofer for adequate audio experience. The 240 Hertz refresh rate is technically designed to reduce motion blurring in fast-moving images, which is often the case for most games.
Despite of being marketed as a “PlayStation” 3D Display, it comes with one component and two HDMI 1.4 inputs. Which gives you the added options of using this full HD LED display with cable TV boxes, Xbox 360, computers, or anything with component and HDMI outputs. But, I would highly advised against buying this product for use as a computer monitor, as there is barely any 3rd-party PC driver that officially supports it at this moment. Right now, there are better LED displays designed for computers in the market and for much less money.
When used as a computer monitor, you will still get 1080p (1920×1080 pixels) resolution. But, you will most likely be limited to 60 Hertz refresh rate. For 3D PC gaming, you will need PC graphics driver support or a native HDMI 1.4a game to get a decent 3D experience.
This product really shines when used together with the Sony PlayStation 3 gaming console. When playing in either 2D or 3D mode, you can expect crisp and clear high definition graphics with excellent color fidelity from the PlayStation 3D Display. In 3D mode, depending on the PS3 3D game, you’ll get sucked into richer realism and immersive depths it offers.
It uses Active Shutter 3D technology, so you get full HD 1080p 3D playback — without any loss in resolution. Unlike cheaper Passive 3D display technology, where you will only get half the resolution (if playback is 1080p, you will see only 540 lines of resolution). Furthermore, the PlayStation 3D display is also engineered to reduce 3D crosstalk issues and minimizes the “ghosting” effects common in 3D games.
The PlayStation 3D display also introduces a unique feature called SimulView technology, which delivers individual full HD (2D only) viewable screen to each player in two-player mode.
“Ordinarily when you’re playing two-player mode you use split screen,” said Sony hardware product manager Patrick Chen. “With the new technology in this display you can get full HD per person while you’re wearing the glasses.”
But, of course, SimulView is only available for PS3 games that support it. At launch, MotorStorm Apocalypse, Gran Turismo 5, Killzone 3, and Super Stardust HD will support SimulView technology. And, you’ll need to buy a second pair of PlayStation 3 3D Glasses for your partner, as this bundle only come with 1 pair of 3D glasses out of the box.
The 3D glasses are fully rechargeable via the included micro-USB cable. It merely takes 30 minutes to be fully charged and will get you approximately 30 hours of 3D play. Sony also claims that these 3D glasses are compatible with Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, and Sharp displays that features Active Shutter 3D technology.
It is quite unfortunate that Sony did not include a remote controller with this bundle. But, you can always buy it separately if you don’t already have one yet.
