Cloud for your PlayStation 3 Saved Games

Not Final Fantasy VII Cloud, but a new service offered by Sony for PlayStation Plus subscribers. It is the capability to back up your precious save game data to the cloud (online storage). You can even back-up “copy-prohibited save data.”

The new online storage allows gamers to store up to 150MB of data and maximum of 1,000 data files per PSN account. According to Sony PlayStation Blog, “most PS3 titles will be compatible with online storage of game files, and all new titles will have the capability to offer the storage option.”

Sony announces Move.me application for PC

Following a move by PrimeSense to make XBOX 360 Kinect-like motion-sensing controller usable for the PC, Sony announces Move.me application which would also make their PlayStation Move controller available for PC systems.

PlayStation Move is a motion-sensing game controller platform released last fall for the PlayStation 3 system. With the announced Move.me software application, hobbyists, academics, researchers, and students can use PlayStation Move controller as input device for their own PC, all via the PlayStation 3 system. It will be downloadable from PlayStation Network this spring without requiring PS3 SDK or licensing agreements.

Rootkit in Sony PS3 firmware version 3.56?

According to Jailbreakscene, the latest official Sony PS3 firmware version 3.56 sneaks in a rootkit which would eventually allow Sony to remotely perform anything they want with your console whenever your PS3 connects to the Playstation Network (PSN).

This is said to be similar to the method used by Microsoft to detect and ban XBOX 360.

People are speculating that this alleged rootkit backdoor was intentionally planted on the latest firmware by Sony immediately after the recent PS3 “jailbreak” by Geohot.
